Reasons why you should send greeting cards instead of e-cards or FaceBook wishes
Sending birthday and holiday wishes has become really easy, sometimes as easy as hitting the like button on someone else’s FaceBook post. E-cards and cool images are also handy, but some people and some occasions require a little more.
Think how good you feel when 200 people wish you a happy birthday on a social media account. Now think how nice you would feel to get an actual card in your mailbox or handed to you. Something beautiful or creative that someone picked out just for you! Something that someone took time to write in and hand sign and then deliver it to you. A little piece of art you can save after you have read it and admired the image.
Be it on the fridge or in a box you put away and look through years from now while remembering the feeling that person and card brought to you. I know, I know you can end up with piles of paper!! But….many people love finding old cards in the attic and reading through them, getting a little bit of your history. Many buy them at thrift shops and from eBay for the vintage looks, the messages and to make new art through mixed media and collage. Some occasions aren’t on the calendar and these really require a little something special. You and your thoughtfulness leave an everlasting impression that is almost getting lost in the day of online everything.
Have an old co-worker who is now working from home or retired? You used to be so close. Work besties, that’s when a hand written greeting card comes in and helps keep and renew old friendships. Holidays that you may not expect any greetings like Halloween or a friendly Valentine for a single friend. A Christmas card that captures an old memory just perfect really stands out especially for those who work the holidays attached to a plate of homemade cookies or a few candies.
I am all for cutting out some unnecessary paper piles but, I still want greeting cards and hard copy books and magazines. Maybe you or someone you know feels the same way!
